Large & In-charge: Losi's 1/6-scale Super Rock Rey Rock Racer

By: Tim Gluth

2018 has seen some wild additions to the large-scale R/C scene. The latest option is the Losi Super Rock Rey, a 1/6-scale beast of a buggy that's the larger sibling of the 1/10-scale Losi Rock Rey.

Balancing both scale details and high-performance, the Super Rock Rey can be viewed as a "best of both worlds" machine in the eyes of radio-control enthusiasts. Nestled under the exterior body panels is a fully-detailed roll cage and detailed driver compartment. Additional accessories such as LED light bars, a spare tire, and a fire extinguisher help round out the visual assets of this machine. But while it's one thing to look good sitting still, how does the performance of this machine stack up to other large-scale R/C vehicles?

Losi Super Rock Rey - Side

Judging from the action footage of this buggy, it's performance meets or exceeds its looks. Powered by a 750kv brushless motor and an ESC that's capable of wrestling 8S LiPo power, the Super Rock Rey doesn't let its massive size get in the way of all-out fun.

A durable chassis which blends aluminum and composite components help to make this rig as bulletproof as it can be, while waterproof electronics will keep the action flowing even with the weather doesn't cooperate. An included Spektrum DX2E radio system with Active Vehicle Control (AVC) will keep new drivers headed in the right direction, while seasoned pros can let loose and push the boundaries of the Super Rock Rey's performance.
