NASCAR Driver Martin Truex Jr. Signs with Futaba
Every so often my two favorite pastimes, auto racing and R/C, intersect in some unique ways. When these crossovers occur, it reminds me how broad and wide the appeal of this hobby can be, and what a great form of escape it provides folks from all walks of life. The most-recent happening involves NASCAR driver, Martin Truex Jr. and his signing with Futaba. As a two-time Xfinity Series champion, and multi-time winner in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, Martin is no slouch behind the wheel. As it turns out, he’s got some skills with a transmitter as well.
When he’s not holding the throttle down on his #78 Furniture Row/Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry, Truex enjoys time with his R/C speed boats. In fact, he has set a number of records for ⅓, ¼, and 1/16 straightaway speeds.
From Futaba:
Nationally known for racing full-size stock cars, Martin has also set several International Model Power Boat Association (IMPBA) and North American Model Boat Association (NAMBA) records. His achievements include a NAMBA A hydro straightaway record, as well as multiple IMPBA hydro 1/3 mile oval, 1/4 mile oval and 1/16 mile straightaway records
